Latest News - September 29, 2008 We just learned of the sudden passing of classmate Steve "Skip" Zendek. Skip attended Eisenhower Elementary and lived on North 9th Street growing up. His obituary is below. Flowers on behalf of the class have been sent.
Steven James Zendek III, 38, of New Kensington, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, on the field of PNC Park while enjoying Fanfest with his wife and family members. He was born May 21, 1970, in Indiana, Pa. Steven was originally from Indiana, Pa., and had lived in New Kensington for the past six years. He was a graduate of Indiana High School and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, receiving a bachelor's degree in communications. He was employed by Laurel Food Systems in Pittsburgh. He played softball and baseball. He enjoyed watching the NFL and fantasy football, watching and playing golf, playing pool and listening to music. He also enjoyed playing Playstation III and computer games with all of his cousins. He really enjoyed his lawn. He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in New Kensington. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Steven Zendek; and his grandmother, Frances Tramontana. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Lynda Ann (Varesco) Zendek; his parents, Steven Jr. and Joanne (King) Zendek, of Indiana, Pa.; a brother, Martin (Rori) Zendek, of Berkley, Calif.; grandparents, Richard and Lenora (Himes) King, of Indiana; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Eleanor Varesco, of Arnold; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be greatly missed by his dog, Abbey, and his cat, Emma. Family and friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the JOSEPH J. CARDARO FUNERAL HOME, a service oriented funeral home, 1125 Kenneth Ave., New Kensington, 724-337-3325. Prayers of transfer will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home, followed by a Christian Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in New Kensington with Father Daniel Blout officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Arnold.
